A Chapel-en-le-Frith gallery

These photographs have been kindly donated by Marple Local History Society.

Back Chinley Lane probably refers to Eccles Road although we don't know the location of the bungalow.
Chapel-en-le-Frith South Station. Photographed in March 1971 by G. Fox

The Prince's Hotel. Close to the station, the hotel was built on the site of the former Squirrel Inn  to cater for passengers from the busy railway junction.  The car gives an indication of the period of this picture.

Celebrating the 1911 Coronation of King George V at Chapel Milton.  The village is overlooked by the twin railway viaducts.

The Coronation is also celebrated in Chapel-en-le-Frith. The children are aboard a cart which bears the name G & J Heathcott, Corn Merchants, Chapel-en-le-Frith.

A parade passes the Dog Inn.  The 1911 Coronation was a great celebration with towns and villages elaborately decorated and large processions through the streets.

The Dog Inn is also seen in this 1910 photograph when a large number of farmers gathered in the Market Place.

The Co-op and staff.  This was No.3 branch of the New Mills Equitable Co-operative and Industrial Society.  The store was at 98 Market Street, near to Morrisons. The building is now occupied by Carpet Creations.

 An unidentified shop

Remscott House at 29 Market Street.  This was Smiths ironmongers and nailmakers. Explosives were also supplied to local quarries. The premises are now occupied by Rems cafe bar and restaurant.
